MRO provider Vector Aerospace has been appointed a Pratt & Whitney Canada designated overhaul facility (DOF) for the PW150A turboprop and plans to have an MRO facility in the Asia-Pacific region fully operational by the middle of next year. The company, which has engine MRO facilities in Prince Edward Island & British Columbia, the UK, Africa and France, is a P&WC designated overhaul facility supporting the P&WC PT6A/PT6T/JT15D/PW100/PW305/PW306/PW307/PW308.

Hawker Beechcraft’s Global Customer Support (GCS) division announced at LABACE 2012 that it is taking orders and scheduling Blackhawk engine upgrades at the show for Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21-equipped King Air 200s.
Today at LABACE 2012, Blackhawk announced that it sold a Caravan XP42A performance upgrade system–the first in South America–to Trans Guyana Airways, a charter and scheduled flight services carrier based in Ogle, East Coast Demerara, Guyana.
AgustaWestland signed agreements at the Farnborough airshow with three key suppliers–Pratt & Whitney Canada, Rockwell Collins and BAE Systems–for its AW609 civil tiltrotor program. These major agreements follow a trail of contracts signed with AW609 component suppliers since AgustaWestland acquired the tiltrotor program last November. The OEM expects to obtain FAA and EASA certification of the AW609 in the first half of 2016.
Pratt & Whitney Canada has signed a five-year agreement with Calgary-based Kenn Borek Air under which the operator will upgrade the charter company’s fleet of Twin Otters with new PT6A-27 and PT6A-34 engines.
“This agreement provides Kenn Borek Air and [other] operators the opportunity to install new PT6A engines for both upgrade and renewal of their fleets. This agreement also includes a new engine warranty and full access to P&WC engine support at all times,” said Denis Parisien, P&WC vice president, general aviation.
Pratt & Whitney Canada is offering a free PT6A seminar at EAA AirVenture 2012 in Oshkosh on Saturday, July 28 (Hangar B, booth 2132). The session will provide an opportunity for P&WC customers to meet with key people from the PT6A team responsible for supporting their operations, said P&WC Raffaele Virgili, vice president for customer service. The 75-minute seminar will provide design, operation and maintenance insights as well as a historic retrospective.
Under the leadership of Scott Ernest, appointed CEO last year, Cessna has accelerated new product introductions. At yesterday’s opening of the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh show, Cessna announced that the single-engine Grand Caravan turboprop is getting a bigger engine, an 867-shp PT6A-140.

Abu Dhabi Autonomous System Investments (ADASI) signed a contract with Piaggio Aero today at the Farnborough Airshow for the Piaggio Aero MPA (multi-role patrol aircraft), a new special-missions surveillance aircraft based on the P.180 Avanti II. The agreement calls for aircraft launch customer ADASI to provide financing for Piaggio to build two prototypes. First flight is scheduled for 2014.
GE is close to having its 800-shp H80 turboprop flying on certified aircraft, thus throwing the gauntlet to the ubiquitous Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) PT6A engine. The first H80-equipped Ayres Thrush 510G cropduster was to be delivered in June. Smyrna Air Center is flight-testing an H80-powered King Air C90, aiming for STC in the third quarter of 2012.
