The electrically powered Solar Impulse (HB-SIA) is an amazing airplane and I was anxious to see it fly during the Paris Air Show. Unfortunately for me and probably many others who attended the biennial event, the weather did not cooperate until the last day of the show, June 26.

GE Aviation has launched its GEnx TruEngine program on the GEnx-1B engine and granted TruEngine designation to Air India’s GEnx-1B engine fleet. Air India has ordered GEnx-1B engines for its 27 Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
Turboprop engine specialist Blackhawk of Waco, Texas, is celebrating its 300th engine upgrade at this year’s EBACE. The customer in question is Germany’s Reinhardt Michel, who owns and flies a Piper PA-31T Cheyenne, purchased in 2004.
In the first quarter, general aviation airplane shipments fell 4.6 percent, from 390 aircraft last year to 372 this year, according to data released today by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). However, GA airplane billings dived by 19.6 percent year-over-year to $3.7 billion in the first three months, due primarily to a 22-percent drop in business jet shipments, from 164 aircraft to 128.
Convinced that he can round up enough U.S. investors to keep Cirrus Aircraft on American soil, consultant Brian Foley is organizing a counter-offer in a bid to trump China’s plan to buy the Duluth, Minn.-based light aircraft builder from majority owner Arcapita (58 percent) and the several hundred individual shareholders who currently own the company.
Chromalloy is offering a new thermal barrier coating it claims enhances the performance of gas turbine engines. "The RT-35 Low K coating provides lower thermal conductivity, which allows higher engine temperatures. Engines produce greater thrust when operating at higher temperatures and they can operate on the same amount of fuel as powerplants that operate at lower temperatures," said Dr.
Although few details are available about Dassault’s super-midsize SMS Falcon, the company is aiming for certification in 2016, according to Olivier Villa, senior vice president for civil aircraft. When the twin-engine SMS was launched in January 2008 it was slated to be powered by the Rolls-Royce RB282.
