Air Routing International (ARI) of Houston has introduced a new service for U.S. clients called the Domestic Flight Watch (DFW) program, designed to minimize ATC delays and reroutings by optimizing coordination between the FAA and NBAA’s General Aviation Desk at the FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center in Virginia.
Effective January 5, when filing an FAA flight plan (with the exception of filing through DUATS and flight service stations), RVSM-compliant operators are expected to file “/Q” (RVSM with a FMS or GPS) or “/W” (RVSM without FMS and GPS), as appropriate, for flight in RVSM airspace (between FL290 and FL410 inclusive).
Latin America adopted reduced vertical separation minimums (RVSM) on January 20, along with the rest of the Americas, and the transition to date in Brazil has been relatively smooth, according to national officials.
“There were no major problems on January 20,” said Saulo Jose da Silva of Brazil’s Department of Air Traffic Control.

Dassault has begun deliveries of the Falcon 900EX equipped with the fully operational EASy flight deck. The so-called “Step 3” of EASy includes new features, such as video display capability. It also corrects some minor imperfections and offers, at last, some functions the French manufacturer had promoted heavily when it announced the product.
Beech King Air C90A, Salt Lake City, Dec. 18, 2004–The NTSB said the probable cause was the pilot’s failure to obtain/ maintain a proper climb rate after takeoff and his premature initiation of the turn (low-altitude flight maneuver).
Mitsubishi MU-2B-36, West Memphis, Ark., Sept. 22, 2005–The 12,600-hour ATP-rated pilot of the McNeely Charter Services MU-2 had departed West Memphis Municipal Airport (AWM) about an hour before the accident on a flight to Gainesville, Ga., when he returned so a McNeely mechanic could check the right engine fire warning caution light. The light had flickered but he found no signs of fire.
The FAA has approved Rannoch as a class-1 provider of ASDI (aircraft situational display to industry) data, adding the company to the list of services that offer online subscribers access to real-time flight information. Rannoch said it will use the flight-tracking data as part of its AirScene suite of services. Currently about 20 companies are FAA-approved as class-1 ASDI data providers.
The FAA has approved handling agent Air Routing International to file and amend business aircraft flight plans directly with the agency’s Host ATC system. The Houston-based company says the approval will increase the efficiency of its flight-planning operations.
