Bombardier will be the first manufacturer to offer high-speed Ka-band in-flight Internet conductivity in a business aircraft, with Honeywell’s new JetWave satcom system to be available for delivery aboard the Canadian aircraft manufacturer’s Global series starting in 2016, the companies announced this morning.

Garmin once again placed at the top of AIN’s latest Avionics Product Support Survey, scoring an 8.3 rating (out of a possible 10) this year from AIN readers–the same as last year. L-3 Avionics and Universal Avionics tied for second place, both with 7.8 ratings. L-3 moved up two spots in the 2014 survey ranking, with a half-point jump from last year’s fourth-place rating of 7.3. Universal Avionics also placed second last year.

Satcom service provider Gogo rebranded its Aircell business aviation division as Gogo Business Aviation, the company announced today. The move follows a rebranding of its air-to-ground high-speed airborne data service for the business aviation market from Aircell High Speed Internet to Gogo Biz in August 2010. “As Gogo continues to expand its leadership position, its business and commercial aviation divisions now share a single, global brand,” the company said.

Garmin held on to its first-place position in AIN’s 2014 Avionics Product Support Survey, scoring an 8.3 rating from AIN readers, the same number as last year. L-3 Avionics moved up to second place this year, a half-point jump to 7.8 from last year’s fourth-place rating of 7.3 and tied with Universal Avionics, which also held the second-place spot last year. Rockwell Collins moved up a tenth of a point to 7.7 this year for third place, the same spot it held in last year’s survey.

Elliott Aviation, an authorized King Air service center, announced their FAA STC approval for the activation and use of all Aircell Wi-Fi products in the King Air 200, 300 and 350.This includes the ATG 2000 and ST 4300 as well as the ATG 5000, ATG 4000 and the Aviator 200 and 300/350 and Gogo Vision with the UCS 5000 media server. The STC allows airplane activation for all Wi-Fi standards including A, B, G and N.

Aircell is eliminating unlimited service plans for new activations using its Gogo Biz air-to-ground network, beginning July 16. After this date, existing unlimited service contracts will be subject to a “grandfathering” option, which continues unlimited service until Dec. 15, 2016. Aircell says it was prompted to make the change by the rapid growth in data usage aloft, which mirrors ground-bound mobile device users’ appetite for data.

Aircell is eliminating unlimited service plans for new service activations to its Gogo Biz air-to-ground network, beginning July 16. After that date, existing unlimited service contracts will be subject to a “grandfathering” option, which continues unlimited service until Dec. 15, 2016. Rate plans are changing, too, but customers will get more data for the same price under the new lowest-cost plan. Two new plans have been added at the 2.5 and 5 GB levels.

Constant Aviation has received STC approval from Brazil’s ANAC to install Swiftbroadband Aviator 200 and Aircell GoGo Wi-Fi systems in the Phenom 300. “The approval allows the installation of a solution for worldwide in-flight Wi-Fi connections on Brazilian-registered aircraft. Our experience on the Phenom not only provides operators a reliable solution but also allows this STC to be installed at any of our three nationwide locations.

Inflight connectivity provider Aircell (Booth 5223) unveiled at EBACE 2014 new SwiftBroadband airtime programs for business aviation. Aircell has long been a distributor for Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband service and also manufactures SwiftBroadband transceivers. Business aircraft operators can now choose from a variety of SwiftBroadband data and voice plans offered by Aircell with accompanying services.
