Rockwell Collins has upgraded the operating software for the Airshow Network news and information service. The new network protocol, Version P4, improves Airshow Network’s overall connectivity and works over the AirCell onboard telephone network.
Gulfstream has selected AirCell’s Axxess cabin communications system as standard equipment aboard its line of large-cabin business jets spanning the G300 through G550.
Hawker Beechcraft (Booth No. 6159) has announced AirCell’s Axxess II satcom system is now a factory option on new 900XP midsize and 750 light-midsize jets. The option was developed through an STC awarded to the Hawker Beechcraft Little Rock, Ark. alteration station. The system will be provisioned for equipment operating on AirCell’s exclusive broadband frequency, available next year, or the Inmarsat SwiftBroadband service.
AirCell is at NBAA 2007 heralding next year’s launch of new broadband services as modular options to its Axxess cabin system. The company is at Booth No. 1630 offering details about its own broadband system, which will operate domestically over the exclusive, dedicated frequencies the FCC awarded to AirCell last year, as well as the Inmarsat SwiftBroadband service offering global in-flight voice and data at up to 432 kbps per channel.
In a boost for Louisville, Colo.-based AirCell (Booth No. 1630), Gulfstream has selected the company’s Axxess cabin communications system as standard equipment aboard its line of large-cabin business jets spanning the G300 through G550.
AirCell reports it has successfully completed the initial phase of flight testing for a new airborne telecommunications link, which is claimed to provide average data speeds in flight of 300- to 500 kilobytes per second and peak rates up to 2.4 megabytes per second.
Fractional-ownership provider NetJets has placed an order for 50 AirCell ST 3100 Iridium satellite communication systems for its growing fleet of Raytheon Hawker 400XP light business jets.
The satellite phone systems will be installed at Raytheon Aircraft Services in San Antonio before aircraft delivery. A spokeswoman for Woodbridge, N.J.-based NetJets said the fractional operator expects the first 400XP delivery this month.

The Axxess system includes two Iridium satcom channels for making voice calls and transmitting low-rate data in flight. The unit’s capabilities can be expanded to four Iridium channels as well as a single Inmarsat satcom channel allowing Internet access through the Swift64 aero data service.

AirCell, one of the world’s leading airborne telecommunications service providers, has named Sergio Aguirre as its OEM sales manager. Aguirre brings more than 20 years of industry experience to the position, where he will manage the Colorado-based company’s business aviation OEM relationships.
Prior to joining AirCell, Aguirre held positions of increasing responsibility with Gulfstream Aerospace, Airshow and Securaplane.
