Bombardier Aerospace’s Singapore Service Center has entered into an agreement with Honeywell Aerospace that will allow the MRO to offer retrofit, modification and upgrade services for Honeywell products to operators of Bombardier business jets in the region. Operators will see simplified logistical arrangements as they will no longer have to leave Singapore for complex avionics upgrades.
Honeywell (Booth P310) announced yesterday at ABACE 2014 that it has expanded its Asia-Pacific aftermarket support efforts, thanks to an agreement with Bombardier’s Singapore service center, which will offer retrofit, modification and upgrade (RMU) services for Honeywell products.
The next major step in satellite communication services will be the deployment of Inmarsat’s new Ka-band GX (Global Xpress) satellite constellation. Satellite service provider Satcom Direct (Booth P212) has ordered 10 shipsets of the new satcom system for its business aviation clients. The three Inmarsat-5 satellites are scheduled to be in orbit by the end of this year, and GX Aviation services should start in the first half of 2015.
Rockwell Collins announced an upgrade path for Fans 1/A capability in Dassault Falcon 50EXs, 2000s and 2000EXs with Collins avionics and flight management system. The enhancements, which will be available from Rockwell Collins next year, include automatic dependent surveillance-contract (ADS-C) and controller pilot datalink communications (CPDLC).
Professional audio company AKG broke into the aviation market on Tuesday with the introduction of an active noise-reduction aircraft headset, the AV100, at the Sun ’n’ Fun Fly-In. Its $1,099 headset uses hybrid active noise-cancelling technology and signal processing to attenuate the specific frequencies inside an airplane. Features include built-in LED map lights, as well Bluetooth connectivity and an auxiliary input for interfacing with navigation devices, tablet PCs, phones or other devices, allowing such things as Hi-Fi music streaming.
Honeywell BendixKing’s new AeroWave 100 satcom system, introduced yesterday at the Aircraft Electronics Association convention, offers 3G-like data speeds in a system designed for installation in light aircraft, from piston twins to turboprops and light jets. AeroWave is an Inmarsat L-band satcom that offers speeds of 150 to 200 kbps, and its price of $20,000 is about a third of the cost of Honeywell’s Aspire SwiftBroadband satcom (about 400 kbps).
Owners of Bombardier CL-600 series jets will have an option for upgrading their jets, including older ones, to the latest NextGen technology, including FANS 1/A CPDLC and Link 2000+, under a new STC that Comlux America is pursuing. The STC will also include ADS-B OUT compliance, which means that even older Challenger 600s will be able to continue flying in ADS-B airspace around the world and after Jan. 1, 2020 in the U.S. The STC will involve adding avionics from Universal Avionics and International Communications Group (ICG) and an L-3 Aviation Recorders cockpit voice recorder.
The first formal agreement between a major global avionics manufacturer and a Russian-based aviation solutions provider was enacted via a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Rockwell Collins (Booth No. 8040) and St. Petersburg, Russia-based Transas Aviation.

Eagle Copters has resumed work on the Eagle 407HP conversion that retrofits the Honeywell HST900D-2 engine into the Bell 407 in place of the stock Rolls Royce C47. The Honeywell engine maintains power through higher altitudes, according to Eagle, improving payload capacity by 40 percent at 12,000 feet while reducing specific fuel consumption and delivering a 22 percent better power output than the stock engine in high/hot conditions. The new engine also offers e an 8 percent reduction in takeoff and 10 percent lower max cruise specific fuel consumption.
