The Ascend Flight Manager app is now available at the Apple App Store.

Rockwell Collins introduced Airshow 500, which it calls the first 3-D moving map system for light business jets. The new solution comes with worldwide maps and many other standard features, including passenger-selectable languages and settings. It is a modernized, lighter-weight drop-in replacement for the Airshow 410. It is compatible with legacy monitors as well as newer widescreen monitors with digital inputs. Airshow 500 is also available in a flange-mount option to meet any aircraft installation requirement.

Satellite communication specialist Satcom1 appointed Henrik Zinck its new CFO. In that position he will develop the company’s finance and IT departments. Zinck has held management positions at several satellite and telecommunications companies, including VSAT, Emperion and CBB Mobil. He is based at the company’s Copenhagen headquarters.

ICG (Booth No. N2329) is developing a new mobile application for Apple and Android smartphones, managed by its eRouter data management system, that will allow customers to use personal electronic devices to place calls and send text messages from an aircraft in flight.

Flight support group Palm Aviation (Booth No. C10816) is laying plans to open an office in the U.S., perhaps in partnership with a local company. The move will be the latest expansion for Dubai-based Palm, which is already represented across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Satellite communications solution provider Satcom Direct (Booth No. N4107) announced Monday that its avionics-grade Satcom Direct Router (SDR) will have 3G cellular data connectivity built in, enabling pilots to update onboard systems on the ground as well as allowing other new functions.

Some 9,250 new business jets worth nearly $260 billion will be delivered between 2013 and 2022, according to Honeywell’s 22nd annual Business Aviation Outlook, released yesterday. This latest forecast calls for about 750 fewer aircraft shipments than in the 10-year outlook released by the company last October, though the overall value is up by about $10 billion as the trend toward larger business jet models continues.
