Honda Aircraft president and CEO Michimasa Fujino announced recent certification milestones for the company’s HondaJet today at EBACE, while unveiling new enhancements for the light jet’s avionics and cabin management system (CMS).
Here at EBACE 2012, Daher-Socata is exhibiting the TBM 850 Elite, the latest version of its single-turboprop business/utility aircraft. Its main feature is the “quick-change” capability from the conventional six-seat arrangement to a configuration with four forward-facing seats, with the rest of the volume being made available for more luggage. Other improvements can be found in the avionics suite.
Honeywell is moving aggressively to revitalize its Part 23 aircraft avionics division, Bendix/King, which was the dominant player until the ascension of Garmin, Avidyne and the like. In recent months the company has hired a new CEO, former Piper Aircraft president Kevin Gould, who is in the process of building a new management team and hiring more engineers as the company moves into the glass-panel age.
NavWorx added Wi-Fi support to its line of ADS-B receivers and Universal Access Transceivers (UAT), enabling the exchange of data wirelessly with portable and panel-mounted display devices such as Garmin avionics and the Apple iPad. Its Wi-Fi-enabled WxBox can also receive free broadcast weather from a nationwide network of ADS-B stations. Meanwhile, Wi-Fi allows its ADS600-B UAT to wirelessly transmit ADS-B/TIS-B traffic and FIS-B weather and flight information to devices.
Beech King Air 300 and 350 owners and operators will soon be able to refurbish their airplanes’ instrument panels with a modern Garmin G1000 avionics suite. Garmin expects to receive the supplemental type certificate (STC) for the G1000 installation in the King Air 300 and 350 soon. G1000 upgrades are already available for the C90 and B200.
Apple’s iPad has found a new niche in aviation, teaching pilots how to use the modern crop of avionics, especially touchscreen devices. The iPad 2 is an ideal platform for avionics training, with a big colorful touchscreen, plenty of processor power and easy portability. Garmin’s new GTN Trainer app takes full advantage of the iPad 2’s capabilities.
At the Sun ’n’ Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, Fla., this week, Garmin released the new Garmin Pilot aviation app for Apple iOS and Android devices. Garmin Pilot incorporates a number of features in a package that is much easier to use than the earlier Pilot My-Cast.
The annual Sun ’n’ Fun light aircraft convention opened today in Lakeland, Fla., with product-enhancement announcements from several exhibitors. Cessna will add optional flight into known icing (FIKI) capability to its Corvalis TTX high-performance piston single through an integrated wet system molded into the aircraft’s composite wings.
The Cessna Citation M2, a CJ1+ derivative announced in late September at the NBAA Convention in Las Vegas, flew on Friday from the aircraft manufacturer’s headquarters at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. According to Cessna, the M2 prototype’s inaugural flight lasted a little more than 1.5 hours and included tests of its Garmin avionics, autopilot, Williams engines and aircraft systems.
