Satellite communications equipment manufacturer Thrane & Thrane introduced its new flagship Aviation 700D at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) last month in Geneva.

The announcement follows parts manufacturer approval (PMA) from the FAA, allowing certification for use on all aircraft and permitting the Danish company to start worldwide shipment of the product.

Four companies received the Safety of Flight Award at EBACE 2012 in Geneva, earlier this month.

DC Aviation, TAG Aviation and PrivatAir won the platinum award for achieving at least 50 years, or 100,000 hours of safe flying. VistaJet received the silver award for 30 years, or 60,000 hours, of accident-free flying.

How could sending your dirty plates to the fixed base operation (FBO) after a flight to have them washed in a dishwasher be lethal? All too easily, according to catering safety expert Paula Kraft, principal of Atlanta, Georgia-based Aviation Catering Consultants. If the ground handler services the lavatory, then takes his gloves off and brings your clean crockery back to the aircraft, he may, for example, unwittingly contaminate the fresh dishes with invisible fecal particles. Kraft spoke at EBACE on Wednesday May 16 on how to avoid such catastrophes.

Following a year of planning, the African Business Aviation Association (AfBAA) marked its official launch here at EBACE, with the goal of “establishing business aviation as an asset that is recognized, valued and supported by governments, their respective civil aviation authorities and enterprises throughout Africa,” said Tarek Ragheb, chairman of the new organization.

Opening session

EBAA CEO Fabio Gamba and NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen gave a panel of European regulators an earful about the EU Emissions Trading Scheme this morning at the EBACE 2012 opening general session. The EU officials included Matthew Baldwin, the European Commission’s director for aviation and transport policy; Marian Jean Marinescu, a member of the European Parliament; and Salvatore Sciacchitano, executive secretary of the European Civil Aviation Conference.
