As the lawsuit over the dismantling of the Block Aircraft Registration Request (Barr) program moves toward a hearing before a federal district court judge, NBAA and AOPA have established a legal defense fund for people and companies to help defray expenses the two associations incur.
Operators of private aircraft who have relied on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Block Aircraft Registration Request (Barr) program to protect privacy “should assume their flights will appear” on Internet flight-tracking displays as the government’s plan to limit the program takes effect today, August 2, general aviation groups advised. NBAA and AOPA are challenging the government action in the U.S.
NBAA is mourning the death of Walter Pague, 96, a former director of aviation for Armco Steel who was among the 13 people who gathered at the Wings Club of New York in 1946 to establish the Corporation Aircraft Owners Association, the precursor to NBAA. Pague, who would have turned 97 on Thursday, died in his sleep last Friday at his home in Middletown, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Betty.
The Asian market is waking up to the fact that companies using business aircraft earn more than those that don’t (141 percent more, according to an NBAA analysis). However, there are many obstacles remain to developing the private aviation sector in that part of the world.
