Thailand has signed a letter of offer and acceptance covering two Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk tactical transport helicopters. They are being acquired through U.S. Foreign Military Sales channels and, after delivery to the Royal Thai Army, will be the first examples of this new generation of Black Hawk operating in Southeast Asia.
Sikorsky Aerospace Services signed a memorandum of agreement with Danish Aerotech to discuss the possibility of establishing maritime helicopter logistic support in Denmark should the Danish Government acquire MH-60R Seahawk helicopters for the Royal Danish Navy. Sikorsky Aerospace Services is the aftermarket division of Sikorsky Aircraft. Potential collaboration by the two companies comes as the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) evaluates the MH-60R for the Danish Navy’s Maritime Helicopter Replacement Program.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. (Hall 3 D108) is displaying two helicopters at this year’s Paris Air Show that are key to expanding the company’s international footprint, executives said. The S-70i Black Hawk, exhibited outside the United Technologies Corp. chalet A344, is making its first appearance at a major international airshow.
Lockheed Martin has launched a new marketing drive to sell MH-60R/S Seahawk helicopters internationally. Last week it won a $3.2 billion deal to supply 24 MH-60R versions to the Royal Australian Navy.
Speaking yesterday at Heli-Expo 2010, Sikorsky president Jeffrey Pino found looking in the rear-view mirror a fair indicator of what’s to come, and as he put it, “It’s very good.
“We had a great year in 2009,” he said, pointing out $1.1 billion in sales from the Sikorsky Global Helicopters division, another $2 billion from Aerospace Services and a healthy $3.2 billion from Military Systems.
Dean Borgman, president of Sikorsky Aircraft since 1998, has been appointed chairman of the company. Named to succeed him as president is Stephen Finger, who previously served as president of Pratt & Whitney’s military engines business. Both appointments took effect last month.
Lockheed Martin is demonstrating the versatility of the U.S. Navy’s Seahawk helicopter, for which the company installs and integrates the avionics equipment, as well as the sensor systems. On delivery of the airframe from Sikorsky, Lockheed Martin undertakes the extensive equipment installation that over the years has been progressively updated.
Amid numerous press accounts of helicopter heroism during the war in Iraq comes this story of the sort of everyday utility humanitarianism that should walk hand-in-hand with power. Last March 15, the U.S. Navy frigate USS Crommelin was assigned to locate a fishing vessel reported to have a badly injured crewman off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
By this time next year Sikorsky may be in a position to challenge the number one spot in commercial helicopter deliveries based on total revenue. That was the optimistic message from Jeff Pino, senior vice president, corporate strategy, marketing and commercial programs, at a Heli-Expo press conference yesterday.
