Medrar Financial Group of Dubai and Diamond Aircraft Holdings of London, Ontario, signed an agreement yesterday at the Dubai Air Show for Medrar’s acquisition of a majority interest in Diamond. The agreement does not affect Diamond Aircraft Gmbh in Austria.

NBAA is praising the Senate for passing an appropriations bill containing language that would reinstate the Block Aircraft Registration Request (Barr) program. The FAA dismantled the aircraft tail-number blocking privacy program in August. H.R.2112 was passed on Tuesday by a 69 to 30 vote.
Eclipse Aerospace announced at last month’s NBAA Convention that it is resuming new-build production of its iconic very light twinjet, newly dubbed the Eclipse 550. At the show, Eclipse began taking orders for the new jet, which sells for $2.695 million (2011 $). The company expects to produce 50 to 100 Eclipse 550s per year once production resumes in 2013.
Piper Aircraft “indefinitely suspended” the PiperJet Altaire today, just one week after announcing that the single-engine jet program was put “under review.” The Vero Beach, Fla.-based aircraft manufacturer also announced that it will lay off 150 of its 850 employees and 55 contract workers due to the program’s cancellation.

Last month, business aircraft flight activity in the U.S. rolled back slightly from a year ago, decreasing 1.3 percent, according to recently released TraqPak data from aviation services company Argus. Part 91 operations remained in positive territory, with a year-over-year increase of 2 percent, but fractional flying led the pack, climbing by 2.7 percent.

A new revitalized Eclipse VLJ is rising from the ashes of bankruptcy with a boost from Sikorsky’s substantial minority investment. Eclipse Aerospace announced today at the 64th NBAA Annual Meeting and Convention in Las Vegas that it will restart production of new Eclipse jets, dubbed the model 550.
Eclipse Aerospace CEO Mason Holland said the company is currently building two refurbished Total Eclipse jets a month and still hopes to eventually start up a new aircraft production line. “We’ve got pretty good throughput now,” he said, adding that the company’s top priority is supporting the 260 aircraft that came off the production line at the original Eclipse Aviation before it cratered into bankruptcy in 2008.
Court hearings will start December 2 in the lawsuit filed by NBAA and AOPA that seeks to overturn the FAA’s dismantling of the Block Aircraft Registration Request (Barr) program early last month. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit will hear arguments from the associations and FAA.
