Residual value guarantees, superior hot-and-high capabilities and “outstanding” launch customer incentives all contributed to a decision by Mexico’s second-largest airline to take a “calculated risk” on the Sukhoi Superjet 100, Interjet CEO Jose Luis Garza told AIN during a visit to New York last week.
Embraer ERJ 145 family
Embraer delivered 55 jets in the second quarter, composed of 35 airliners and 20 executive jets. Of the business jets, Embraer shipped 17 light jets and three large jets. Total deliveries for the first six months reached 89 aircraft–56 commercial and 33 executive jets–13 more than for the same period last year.
Embraer will soon freeze the design of its first purpose-built military transport, the KC-390, for tactical missions. Although the first flight is planned for 2014, some details remain sketchy. But at least the program seems well funded, with the Brazilian government providing most of the $2.2 billion needed for development.
An agreement signed this month between China and Embraer to build business jets at the Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry facilities is limited to the Brazilian OEM’s Legacy 650.
International Airlines Group (IAG) has signed a binding agreement to sell Aberdeen, Scotland-based BMI Regional to Sector Aviation Holdings for £8 million ($12.9 million) in cash. The sale includes all BMI Regional’s fixed assets and long-term liabilities, including owned and leased aircraft.
BMI Regional flies a fleet of 18 Embraer ERJ 145s and ERJ 135s throughout the UK and Northern Europe. IAG chief executive Willie Walsh said the deal “should” secure some 330 jobs.
Embraer began taxi tests of Legacy 500 Serial Number 001 at its São Jose dos Campos plant in March. The Legacy 500 program’s fly-by-wire development is on track, said Marco Pellegrini, senior v-p of operations and COO for Embraer Executive Jets. First flight of the Legacy 500 is anticipated in the third quarter of this year and certification and entry into service in late 2013 or early 2014. The 450 program follows that of the 500 but is advancing more quickly as technology and lessons learned with its larger sibling are quickly applied in the 450.
Indianapolis-based Republic Airways has agreed with United Airlines to fly the 28 Bombardier Q400s that bankrupt Pinnacle Airlines plans to return to its lessors, Republic announced Monday.
Aeromexico will begin daily service later this month between Mexico City and Washington, D.C., as part of a careful expansion in the U.S. by the publicly traded Mexican flag carrier.

A year later it rolled out the Lineage 1000, an executive version of the E190 airliner, and that same year unveiled plans for the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 and announced its goal of becoming a major player in the business aviation market.
A plan by American Airlines to increase annual revenues by $1 billion by 2017 centers largely on the ability to add large regional jets to fill a capacity gap between 50 and 140 seats more completely, according to an internal letter outlining the company’s post-bankruptcy business plan sent to all AA managers on May 7.
