Atlanta-based Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA) last month launched a new code-share partnership with United Airlines covering flights into and out of Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles International Airports. ASA began the service with a February 11 flight between O’Hare and Columbus, Ohio. It now flies eight weekday flights from O’Hare and 15 weekday flights from Dulles using eight newly refurbished 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200s.
The NTSB laid the primary blame on the pilots of Colgan Air Flight 3407 for the crash on February 12 last year that killed 50 people and perhaps more unflattering comparisons between the respective safety standards that prevail at regional airlines and their mainline counterparts.
The NTSB has ruled that last February’s crash of a Colgan Air Q400 on the outskirts of Buffalo, N.Y., was due to the captain’s inappropriate actions in response to the activation of the stick shaker. Its report, released at a press conference yesterday, said the pilot pulled back on the control column when the shaker activated, placing the twin turboprop into an accelerated aerodynamic stall.

Cessna Citation 680 Sovereign, Los Angeles, Nov. 11, 2008–According to the Board, the night-time collision between a NetJets Sovereign and a ground service vehicle was the result of the vehicle driver’s failure to maintain adequate clearance/distance from the taxiing airplane.
Socata TBM 700, Clovis, N.M., Dec. 22, 2008–The Board ruled that the pilot’s failure to complete the before-landing checklist led to his failure to lower the gear. The gear-up landing substantially damaged the single-engine turboprop. The pilot was using the autopilot for a straight-in approach to the non-towered airport’s Runway 22.
Privately owned Houston Executive Airport in Texas has experienced enough demand to justify building a new 23,400-sq-ft corporate hangar. The airport, built by developer Ron Henriksen, features a 6,610- foot runway that has already been lengthened once. Plans call for further extending the runway to 7,604 feet. The new hangar will fit up to 20 aircraft.
