Embraer Defense and Security is on course to complete the first prototype of the KC-390 tactical airlifter/tanker in time for it to make its first flight before the end of the year. At the specially built assembly site at Gavião Pexoto the fuselage of the first aircraft has already been partly painted in the colors of the Brazilian air force, which is the lead customer for the aircraft. The second aircraft is also in final assembly, and is scheduled to fly soon after the first machine.

Tactair Fluid Controls (Hall 2 Stand B1) announced here at the Farnborough Airshow a new contract from Embraer and its appointment of an authorized repair provider to service its fluid power and motion control products and systems in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Embraer Executive Jets delivered 29 business jets in the second quarter, unchanged from the same period last year. However, this year’s mix is slightly more favorable–six Phenom 100s, 16 Phenom 300s, six Legacy 650s and one Lineage 1000, compared with 11 Phenom 100s, 12 Phenom 300s, five Legacy 650s and one Lineage 1000 in last year’s second quarter. In the first half, Embraer delivered a total of 49 business jets (39 light, 10 large) versus 41 (31 light, 10 large) in the first six months of 2013.

Embraer is displaying a full-size mockup of the passenger cabin of its new E-Jet E2 airliner family for the first time in public here at the Farnborough Airshow. Visitors can view the mockup at the Embraer static display (Outdoor Exhibit 6).

During an exclusive showing for reporters on Sunday, Embraer executives said the new cabin is at an advanced stage in its design, after recommendations of an advisory board, which evaluated a previous mockup last fall, were considered. The manufacturer hopes to solicit comments on the design from customers during the airshow.

Embraer is unveiling its cabin interior for the new -E2 version of its established regional-jet series, which are marketed generically as E-Jets, here at the Farnborough Airshow this week. Maintaining the same four-abreast fuselage cross section, the -E2 models are principally re-engined variants of the E175, 190 and 195 powered by Pratt & Whitney geared turbofans–the PW1700G on the E175 and the larger PW1900G on the heavier E190 and E195.

Some 13,030 business aircraft worth $325.6 billion (2014 dollars) will be delivered over the next 10 years, according to the Teal Group’s latest business aircraft forecast. This includes 9,361 traditional business jets worth $262.4 billion; 537 bizliners and regional jet conversions worth a combined $44.1 billion; and 3,132 business turboprops worth $19.1 billion.

Embraer’s preliminary design review of the E190-E2 at the end of May marked the completion of the project’s joint definition, the company announced on Tuesday. Embraer has also completed wind tunnel tests on the 106-seat jet, scheduled to enter commercial operations before July 2018. Development continues with the critical design review, meant to validate product maturity ahead of prototype production.

Embraer Executive Jets celebrated the delivery of the 500th Phenom yesterday, just 5.5 years after the first Phenom 100 entered service and 4.5 years after Phenom 300 deliveries began. The milestone aircraft, a Phenom 300, was delivered to Prime Fraction Club, a fractional provider in Brazil that operates three other Phenoms, as well as helicopters, boats and sports cars.

KC-390 prototype

The Brazilian air force formally committed to the KC-390 airlifter last month, signing a $3.2 billion contract for 28 aircraft in a ceremony at Embraer’s São Paulo facility. The event was attended by Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff. Final assembly of the first of two KC-390 prototypes is slated to start this month.

Embraer and Boeing signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create a joint biofuels research center at a technological park near Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil. Under the partnership, the companies will be “developing and maturing the knowledge and technologies that make it possible to establish a sustainable biofuels chain for aviation.”
