The first Embraer Legacy 500 is expected to be delivered to a customer in Brazil on Thursday, Embraer Executive Jets president and CEO Marco Tulio Pellegrini said today. The aircraft received certification from Brazilian aviation agency ANAC last month. Meanwhile, FAA certification of the fly-by-wire midsize is “imminent,” with this approval possibly coming later this week, he added. Embraer plans to deliver up to six Legacy 500s by year-end, Pellegrini said, noting that he has “high expectations” for the new model.
Embraer quietly sold a half-dozen Legacy 500s to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) in April, newspaper Valor Econômico reported yesterday. Deliveries are expected to start in 2016. In addition, the FAB signed a technology-transfer contract with Norwegian Special Mission for the supply and integration of systems in the fly-by-wire twinjets for the in-flight inspection of Brazil’s aviation navigation aids.
At the third Latin American Aviation Supply & Services (LAASS), held Sunday in São Paulo, Brazil, heavy hitters in the local aviation community heard that new business aviation hangar and maintenance facilities are coming.
Embraer officially opened a 75,000-sq-ft Engineering & Technology Center yesterday at its growing campus in Melbourne, Fla. The facility will conduct engineering and development activities for both products and technology across Embraer’s business lines–airliners, executive aviation, defense and aerospace–with the first assignments focused primarily on executive jet interiors. It is the first of its kind for Embraer outside Brazil, where the company is headquartered.
Rockwell Collins do Brazil announced plans late last week to double the size of its 9,500-sq-ft service center in São José dos Campos, Brazil, to 19,000 sq ft. The company expects to start construction by year-end.
“This expansion will bring new engineering and service capabilities to our customers in the region and will enable Rockwell Collins do Brazil to pursue and capture more commercial and military programs,” said managing director Nelson Aquino.
The Embraer Executive Jets service center in São José dos Campos, Brazil, is now an authorized Rolls-Royce line maintenance center for the AE3007 in the South American country. The agreement allows Embraer to perform Rolls-Royce’s warranty or CorporateCare program services, which covers the cost of replacement parts, labor and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. AE3007s power the ERJ-135 and -145 regional jets and Legacy 600/650 business jets.
Manufacturers saw a better than 12-percent jump in first-half business jet deliveries year over year, with 318 handed over during the first six months of this year, according to statistics released by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). Much of this increase was fueled by Cessna, which delivered 71 jets in the first half of the year, a 36.5-percent rise over the same period last year. Though the company saw decreases in most of its other models, its totals were buoyed by recent certifications of the Citation M2, Sovereign+ and X+.
The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region is home to more than 5,000 business aircraft–2,457 jets 2,588 turboprops–according to current data from aviation data services firm JetNet. This represents 14.8 percent of the world’s fixed-wing business turbine fleet, despite the region’s 6.6-percent share of world gross domestic product (GDP).
Embraer Executive Jets has opened new facilities at its contact center to provide operational, technical and maintenance support for its fleet of business jets. Since the center opened in 2009, Embraer’s fleet has quintupled in size to 780 aircraft in 50 countries. The contact center, which is located in Embraer’s São José dos Campos headquarters in Brazil, operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year and provides personalized service from the first contact to the final solution for customer needs, anywhere in the world.
Despite some stutters in the global market, especially in the BRIC region that includes Brazil, Embraer Executive Jets continues to post good sales. By the end of June, the combined fleet had climbed to 788 aircraft operating in more than 50 countries. Sales for the first half of this year totaled 49. And, at a press conference in São Paulo on Monday, Embraer reported that market share in the business jet sector is also climbing again, reaching 17.6 percent in 2013, a figure that is almost back to the company’s 2010 high.
