Embraer has begun construction of an executive jet service center at Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa, Ariz. The center, scheduled to open in mid-2008, will be one of three U.S. facilities dedicated to maintaining the Phenom 100, Phenom 300 and Legacy 600.
An extended period of order taking for the world’s makers of regional airliners showed little sign of relenting last month, as Canada’s Bombardier grabbed at least two more major orders for CRJ regional jets while Brazil’s Embraer and the Franco-Italian ATR partnership counted the proceeds from a busy Paris Air Show.
Embraer sent all operators of ERJ regional jets and Legacy business jets a field service letter reminding pilots of the procedure to follow in the event they receive a “landing gear disagree” message after an American Eagle Embraer ERJ 135 tried to land at Boston Logan Airport on June 20 with its landing gear raised. The airplane briefly scraped the runway when the crew aborted the landing for a go-around.

The airplane contacted the runway, damaging the flaps.
Brazil’s Embraer continued to spread its steadily expanding influence among the world’s airlines last month with a 12-aircraft order for 76-seat Embraer 170s from Finnair and the entry into service of a pair of Chinese-built ERJ-145s in the People’s Republic.
The newly established leasing arm of Finnish flag carrier Finnair last month placed a firm order for 12 Embraer 170 regional jets as part of a deal worth more than $300 million that calls for first delivery of the 76-seat airplanes by the fall of next year. The contract, signed by Finnair Aircraft Finance, includes options for another eight Embraer 175s and/or 190s, raising the potential value of the deal to $510 million.
Ask any copilot of a HUD-equipped airplane what a low-visibility approach looks like, and the answer will be the same–no different from any other airplane. But that’s not because the HUD doesn’t help. It’s because traditionally HUDs have been installed only on the captain’s side, and their optics require the user to be sitting in front of the screen.
NBAA hosted a business aviation regional forum at Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre July 15-16, paving the way for the first Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (ABACE), scheduled to debut next summer in Shanghai in the People’s Republic of China. The Hong Kong forum brought 282 attendees from more than 20 countries and focused on business aviation in Asia.
Late last month, Cleveland-based Flight Options confirmed speculation that it was starting a jet-card program when it unveiled JetPass. The 25-hour jet cards are available for either the Beechjet 400A, Hawker 800XP or “large-cabin aircraft” (the Challenger 601, Embraer Legacy or Gulfstream IV), with respective up-front costs of $99,900, $149,900 and $249,900 (federal excise tax not included).
Early figures show that most business aircraft manufacturers reported increased deliveries in the second quarter, with much optimism that the industry is now in a sustained recovery.
