The board of Deutsche Lufthansa, Europe’s second-largest airline, has approved a $1.5 billion expenditure for 30 Embraer E190s and 15 Bombardier CRJ900s.
Embraer has begun construction of its second Phenom 100 airframe and is on schedule for planned first flight in the middle of this year and entry-into-service in the middle of next year. The first all-metal Phenom 100 VLJs will be assembled at Embraer’s main plant in São José dos Campos, Brazil.
Germany-based aerospace consultancy PMI-Media has lowered its estimated very light jet (VLJ) delivery schedule for this year based on production difficulties Eclipse Aviation has encountered. In its latest report, PMI said it has reduced its total VLJ industry deliveries forecast by nearly half, from 205 to 125.

GE Capital Aviation Services last month secured $220.8 million in financing from Brazil’s BNDES development bank for 10 Embraer 170s destined for US Airways, LOT Polish Airways and Alitalia. The deal came after BNDES president Carlos Lessa told Embraer last year to start seeking other sources of financing for this year’s airplane deliveries. Embraer blamed financing delays for last year’s disappointing financial performance.
The 98- to 108-seat Embraer 190 officially began its year-and-a-half-long flight-test campaign on March 12, when the first prototype took off from Embraer’s São José dos Campos, Brazil assembly facility for a 2-hour 45-minute mission.
