Luxair, Luxembourg’s one-third government-owned private carrier, is rationalizing its regional-airline fleet and route system to improve productivity and profitability. “We’re restructuring everything, including the network,” Luxair executive vice president Martin Isler told AIN.

On Sunday night a Brazilian air force Embraer EMB-145 ANEW&C landed at the Dubai airshow to make the type’s first appearance outside South America, at the start of Operação Guardião–a demonstration tour that will also take the aircraft to December’s LIMA show in Malaysia. The aircraft flew from Brazil with six stops along the way.
Embraer has lowered its 20-year projection for deliveries of small commercial airplanes to reflect a less optimistic outlook for both China and the rest of the Asia/Pacific region.
Last month’s order for five ERJ 145s placed by China Eastern Airlines no doubt came as welcome news to the management of the Brazilian-Chinese joint manufacturing venture known as Harbin-Embraer Aircraft, but it certainly didn’t overwhelm anyone hoping to fully engage an assembly line capable of building 24 airplanes a year.
Embraer has selected Thales’ integrated electronic standby instrument (IESI) for the Phenom 100 and 300 business jets. The Thales IESI already flies aboard every other Embraer model, from the ERJ 135 regional twinjet to the Embraer 190, launched in a business jet derivative here at EBACE on Tuesday.
Embraer wants to change the face of the business aviation market to the same degree that it has already revolutionized the regional airliner sector. Just before the 2005 EBACE show, the Brazilian airframer announced two new corporate aircraft–the Phenom 100 very light jet (VLJ) and the Phenom 300 light jet.
Embraer is breaking into the business jet big league with the launch here at the EBACE show today of the new Lineage 1000 jet derived from its 190 regional airliner. The development of the $40.95 million large-cabin model was approved by the airframer’s board of directors last week on April 25 and the aircraft is expected to enter service during 2008.
Embraer last week formally responded to Turkey’s request for proposals for a new military trainer, offering its Super Tucano for a requirement expected to result in 36 firm orders and 19 options. The Brazilian jet has also been technically approved for Singapore’s trainer RFP with this bidding process due to be finalized by the end of July, ahead of the final commercial and financial proposals.
Taipei’s Mandarin Airlines is to lease three Embraer Model 190 and five Model 195 regional jets from GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS). The aircraft will be configured in 104- and 116-seat single-class layouts, respectively.
Embraer, which is already developing two new light jets, announced on the eve of the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition that starts tomorrow in Geneva, that it is breaking into the bizliner market with the launch of the Lineage 1000. The $40-million jet, derived from Embraer’s ERJ 190 regional airliner, is expected to enter service in 2008.
