Ameco Beijing has obtained an AS/EN9100 certificate of registration issued by SAI Global validating that it operates a quality management system that complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008+AS9100C, EN9100:2009, in the scope of design and manufacturing of installation kits for aircraft modification and cabin parts. The AS/EN9100 is a widely adopted and standardized quality management system suited for design, development and manufacturing in the aerospace industry.

Cabin Innovations has named Gary Stephens engineering manager. Reporting directly to Cabin Innovations president Harvey Ticlo, he will be responsible for leading the engineering team and advancing the design and development capabilities for private-aircraft galleys and interiors. Previously Stephens worked for Associated Air Center as principle project engineer, senior project engineer and lead engineer on multiple single-aisle and widebody completion projects. He has 15 years’ experience in the interiors business.

Five-month-old Indian regional airline Air Costa plans to start international operations once India lifts its rule that limits new carriers to domestic services during their first five years of operation. Ahead of that revision, the carrier, which ordered a mix of 50 Embraer E190-E2s and E195-E2s at the Singapore Air Show in February, has applied for a national permit to fly pan-India, Vivek Choudhary, chief commercial officer and vice president of corporate finance of parent company LEPL Projects, told AIN.

Sukhoi Superjet 100s have been in service for nearly three years with Aeroflot and currently they are joining Asia Pacific fleets such as Laos’s Lao Central Airlines.

For more than a year now the Sukhoi Superjet 100 has been carrying passengers with Indonesia’s PT Sky Aviation and Laos’ Lao Central Airlines. In December the Indonesians accepted their third aircraft and seem happy with the Russian 100-seat twinjet. The second airplane for Lao was ready by mid-summer and even made a public appearance at the MAKS 2013 air show in Moscow, but the aircraft has not yet been delivered to the customer.

With its diverse geography and increasingly prosperous and mobile populations, Southeast Asia has become a target of opportunity the world’s regional aircraft OEMs can no longer afford to overlook. One of the earliest to tap the region’s potential, Franco-Italian turboprop maker ATR, has for the past 15 years developed a visibility in the region unmatched by its competitors. While others concentrated on the U.S. and Europe, ATR, perhaps out of necessity, took to exploiting less obvious opportunities in developing markets within Vietnam and Thailand, for example.

AAR recently completed the first heavy maintenance check at its new maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at Chennault International Airport in Lake Charles, La. The work was performed on an Airbus A330. AAR occupies approximately 520,000 sq ft of service and administrative space at the facility, including eight hangar bays, seven of which can accommodate widebody aircraft. Construction of a 112,000-sq-ft hangar that can accommodate aircraft as large as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8 is under way and expected to be completed next summer.
