Hawker Beechcraft King Air B300, Englewood, Colo., Jan. 8, 2007–The NTSB found that the King Air drifted left on landing and hit a snowbank because the main landing gear upper torque knee failed due to overstress. Investigators also attributed the incident to the pilot’s inability to maintain aircraft control. There were no injuries.

An exterior paint job on a Gulfstream G550 will typically cost in the neighborhood of $150,000 and, with proper care and maintenance, will last about five years. CareJet Services president Matt Weisman says it doesn’t have to be that way, and his recently launched company offers as proof a new polymer coating that both extends the life of the paint and enhances its appearance.

Steecon Enterprises has developed a bulkhead swinging door. The door is hinged at the top and bottom, and the door frame houses the motorized activation assembly. The door is activated by the push of a button (on the floor or door frame), remains open long enough for the user to pass through and then closes automatically. A resistance disengage switch ensures that the user cannot be trapped when the door closes.

Securaplane recently announced that CRS Jet Spares, a Securaplane mainship and emergency battery line distributor, has sold its 20,000th mainship battery. Securaplane emergency battery systems use Hawker sealed lead acid batteries instead of nicads and are either original or approved replacement equipment for most business jets.

Mercury Air Group CEO Joe Czyzyk has directed the company’s Mercury Air Centers to provide free use of their facilities nationwide for any private or military aircraft on a humanitarian mission to New York, as long as there is a need and the flight is a verifiable relief operation. Mercury will provide fuel to these aircraft at cost and will not charge ramp fees.

Germany’s Federal Border Police (FBP) EC 135s and EC 155s will be equipped with the EADS Defence Electronics Hellas obstacle-warning laser radar. An order for 18 systems, announced at ILA in Berlin last month, will augment an earlier one for 25 systems.
