While on my way to work a couple of weeks ago, I stopped at a gas station and filled up my car. As I headed back onto the parkway, the engine started running rough and less than two miles later it shuddered to a stop. Knowing the eight years of wear and tear I had put on the car, I sighed as I called the tow truck, believing the grasp of mechanical old age was finally putting its inevitable squeeze on my car and wallet.
Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings of Andover, Kan., has expanded its SKYscape basecoat/clearcoat polyurethane aerospace paint to include special mica effects with 30 new “pearl” color options. The new SKYscape mica colors feature translucent pearl and mica pigments rather than traditional metallic flaks, resulting in vivid special effects.
Turbomeca plans to reduce the specific fuel consumption (SFC) of its turboshaft engines by 37 percent by 2030, and at the Helitech 2011 show discussed the strategies it is implementing to accomplish that change. While the company plans to make changes to the engine machinery, it expects much of the reduction to come from engine-airframe integration and new practices that make more efficient use of the engine.
The FAA launched a new website today where pilots and others can report incidents of lasers being shined at aircraft. It includes links for reporting laser incidents, laser statistics and FAA research on the dangers lasers can pose to pilots.
Chromalloy has named Carlo Luzzatto as its new president. Luzzatto’s background is in the energy industry, where he was most recently the co-general manager of Ansaldo Energia, a division of the Italian conglomerate Finmeccanica, a provider of power plant equipment and power generation services.
