Brazil’s Embraer and its U.S. partner, Sierra Nevada Corp., confirmed that the A-29 Super Tucano won the U.S. Air Force Light Air Support (LAS) competition. Hawker Beechcraft continued to protest the decision, by appealing to the Court of Federal Claims, and the Air Force issued a stop work order this week, just days after Sierra Nevada was awarded a $355 million contract for an initial 20 aircraft, as well as training equipment and support.

British commanders are counting the cost of a major and successful contribution to NATO’s Operation Unified Protector. The UK and France were the biggest contributors to the campaign, after the first week when U.S. forces provided an initial boost. British aircraft and helicopters flew more than 3,000 sorties, including more than 2,100 strike missions. Hawker Beechcraft Global Customer Support (HBC) today announced at the NBAA Convention that, together with Rockwell Collins, it has launched an aftermarket program to upgrade Pro Line Fusion displays to all fielded Pro Line 21-equipped Hawker and Beechcraft aircraft. Importantly, this marks the first after-market program of the Fusion avionics system.

Nextant Aerospace brushed off a communiqué sent by Hawker Beechcraft (HBC) warning it will not provide any support for aircraft modified without the Wichita manufacturer’s “involvement or approval.” The memo specifically mentions the Nextant 400XT, a remanufactured “zero time” Beechjet with new Williams FJ44-3AP engines and Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics.

Boeing is investing $130 million to overhaul the Boeing CH-47 Chinook production line in Ridley Park, Pa., making it the largest capital investment made by the company’s Defense, Space & Security segment.
