BBA Aviation’s Ontic (Booth No. N3505) is growing. The company, which specializes in transitioning legacy parts manufacturing and distribution from OEMs to its own aftermarket production, has expanded both physically and through its range of products and services. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony September 25 it opened a new MRO facility in Singapore’s popular Seletar Aerospace Park, co-located with BBA Aviation’s Dallas Airmotive, which has established a Singapore Regional Turbine Center.

If the industry is in recovery, AAR is in the vanguard. Despite a shortage of technicians worldwide, AAR has successfully been in growth mode since the FAA bestowed its blessing on a new maintenance facility in Duluth, Minn. last October.
Russian business aviation services group Avcom is stepping up its efforts to improve its maintenance, repair and overhaul network by opening a new support base at Irkutsk in western Siberia. The Moscow-based company is now preparing to open other MRO operations in Khabarovsk (in the far east of Russia) and Omsk in the Urals region, as well as at Samara in the west of the vast country.
Skandia is completing its repertoire of flammability tests with the addition of heat-release and smoke-density equipment for heat, smoke and toxicity testing capabilities.
“Adding these new tests is the direct response to requests by our global customers,” said Jarod Triplett, v-p of the Davis Junction, Ill. company. “This now makes Skandia one of the few single-source testing facilities that can offer the full complement of services.” The services offered include tests required for any commercial or regional aircraft certified to carry 20 or more passengers.
GA Telesis has acquired an inventory of new, overhauled, serviceable rotable and expendable material for the Bombardier Q400. The material is available for immediate purchase. All of the components are warehoused at the company’s distribution center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. GA Telesis can also support spare engine needs of Q400 operators.
Xsight Systems, the same company that developed a system for detecting foreign object debris, recently introduced BirdWize, a software product for reducing bird strikes by more effective tracking of ground-level bird threats.
Cirrus Aircraft announced the expansion of its Grand Forks, N.D. facility to accommodate a new autoclave oven in preparation for production of the all-composite Vision SF50 jet. Modifications to the Grand Forks plant began in May and the autoclave was delivered late last week, with installation now under way.
“The building housing the autoclave will be constructed around this large piece of equipment,” Cirrus said, “and is expected to be complete by the end of July with a fully operational autoclave by mid-August.”
The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) announced a two-year collaborative research agreement with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on June 19 to carry out widespread fatigue damage assessment for the JAXA curved fuselage panel tests. The partnership is considered a cost-effective way to study widespread fatigue issues on an aircraft’s main pressure vessel. The tests are ultimately designed to improve air safety by creating evaluation technology capable of maintaining the structural integrity of new and aging civilian aircraft.
