Innotech Aviation in Montreal is closing in on an FAA STC permitting installations of ViaSat Ku-band satellite data hardware aboard the Bombardier Global Express. ViaSat’s Yonder Ku-band service provides data connections in flight of up to 10 megabits per second, making it the fastest commercial Internet service available.
St. Louis-based JetCorp Technical Services announced it will be moving into a new facility also located on Spirit of St Louis Airport. It includes a 57,000-sq-ft hangar with shop space, a component and sheet metal work area, an avionics facility, and new maintenance and sales offices.
The Ruag Group has streamlined its business aircraft maintenance facilities in response to a net loss in that sector of approximately $103 million for 2009 compared with a net profit of $50 million in 2008. However, Ruag Holding CEO Lukas Braunschweiler pointed out that the loss is allocated entirely to its aircraft component manufacturing division, where low-cost competition is exerting strong pressure on prices.
According to a study conducted by research firm AeroStrategy, the aviation maintenance industry in the U.S. employs 274,634 people and annually “the industry’s direct and indirect impact on the U.S. economy is $39 billion.” The study is based on information culled from government data last year.
With its recent certification as a Venezuelan repair station, Boca Raton-based Reliable Jet Center is adding another maintenance facility in South Florida.
Republic Airport Farmingdale, N.Y.-based Talon Air, an aircraft management and charter operator, has expanded its services after receiving FAA certification of its FAR Part 145 repair station. The MRO offers Talon’s previously in-house maintenance services to the public. The new facility will focus on repairs, inspections and avionics installations for all classes of aircraft.
