Robert Brown, president and CEO of Montreal-based pilot training provider and simulator manufacturer CAE, has announced his retirement effective at the end of this month. He will be succeeded by executive vice president and COO Marc Parent. Brown will remain with the company in an advisory capacity until the end of the year.

U.S. politicians are poised to provoke Europe to take retaliatory action if they press through a proposal in the U.S. Congress to require the Federal Aviation Administration to inspect foreign repair stations twice a year, according to the head of the U.S. Aerospace Industries Association. “We have great concern about that aspect of the FAA reauthorization bill,” said AIA president and CEO Marion Blakey.

Representatives of the U.S. aerospace industry, academia and federal government agencies urged the Aerospace States Association (ASA) last week to pursue its “Call to Action” for the nation to focus on U.S. aerospace competitiveness by encouraging science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem) education.

Despite the worldwide economic maelstrom, total sales for the U.S. aerospace industry were on pace to reach $204 billion for 2008, a new record for the fifth straight year.

Aerospace Industries Association president and CEO Marion Blakey said during the annual AIA year-end review and forecast in December that while the industry has not been immune to effects of the ongoing global financial crisis, it is showing relative strength.

San Antonio-based aerospace maintenance, repair and manufacturing company M7 Aerospace has named J.R. “Rick” Hundley to the position of president and CEO. Hundley succeeds Ron Frederick, who retired last month.

VLJ manufacturer Eclipse Aviation announced that Peg Billson has resigned as president and general manager of the company’s manufacturing division to pursue other career opportunities.

Marinus Heijl has joined the International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations (ICCAIA) as that organization’s first representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal (ICAO).

Heijl retired from ICAO last December after a 27-year career. He served as acting director and deputy director of the Air Navigation Bureau as well as chief of the Air Traffic Management Section.

The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) has launched a counterfeit parts “integrated project team” to create standards for government and industry to reduce the risk of introducing counterfeit parts into the aviation system and “engage” the government to discuss enforcement policies to help prevent counterfeit parts distribution. This does not apply to FAA-approved PMA parts, even those not sanctioned by OEMs.
