Lufthansa Technik yesterday introduced an upgraded NICE (networked integrated cabin equipment) in-flight entertainment and cabin management system focused on new ways to control the various systems.

The improved wireless controller is a hand-held touch-screen device featuring a color graphical user interface. When not in use, it can now be mounted in four different cradle types for storage and recharging.

The TAG TransPolar08 team and friends celebrated the official approval of the crew’s record-breaking flight around the world last year at a pre-EBACE event here at Geneva International Airport on Sunday. Marcel Meyer, Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) executive officer of records, presented diplomas designating the record to the five pilots who participated on the more than 52-hour journey.

TAG Group vice president Aziz Ojjeh and a team of four other pilots broke a
31-year-old speed record for a pole-to-pole circumnavigation of the globe in late November. The TransPolar08 crew circled the globe over the North and South Poles in a Bombardier Global Express, chopping 95 minutes off the record previously held by a Pan Am Boeing 747SP that made the trip in October 1977.

Bombardier is making plans to open a pilot training facility for its business aircraft family here in the Middle East. Gulfstream Aerospace parent General Dynamics yesterday finalized its purchase of Zurich, Switzerland-based Jet Aviation from Permira Funds private equity group for approximately $2.18 billion, significantly expanding General Dynamics’s aftermarket service footprint around the world. The deal was originally announced on August 19, but had to be approved by antitrust authorities before closing.
