Swiss-based Jet Aviation Group expanded its U.S. footprint last month with the acquisition of maintenance and cabin completion and refurbishment specialist Savannah Air Center. The deal adds some 280,000 sq ft of space at Savannah Air to the more than 650,000 sq ft at Jet Aviation’s Midcoast Aviation subsidiary in East Cahokia, Ill.

The first Bombardier Global Express to be certified in Australia has started operation with Melbourne, Victoria-based Visy Board. The aircraft replaces a Gulfstream IV.

The first Global Express entered service in July 1999, and late last year the 100th copy of the business jet was delivered. Recipient of the centennial Global Express was Stanford Financial Group of Houston. Bombardier said the 91 in-service Global Expresses have achieved dispatch reliability of 99.18 percent.

Bombardier has completed flight development testing of its enhanced vision system (EVS), a HUD-coupled package that uses a CMC Electronics infrared sensor and head-up display manufactured by Thales. The system has started certification flight testing, a regimen that Bombardier said will result in an amendment to the Global Express type certificate in next year’s first quarter.

Notching an important contract win, CMC Electronics announced last month that it has been selected to provide the infrared (IR) camera/sensor package for the Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics integrated EVS/HUD in the Dassault Falcon line, ending months of speculation about which supplier would land the coveted contract.

The FAA last month awarded type certification to Cessna for its Citation CJ3 light jet and to Bombardier for its long-range Global 5000. The CJ3 features a cabin that is two feet longer than that of the CJ2, new Williams International FJ44-3A engines and advanced fully integrated Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics.
