Blue Sky Network’s portable HawkEyeLink Bluetooth interface is now able to transmit electronic forms such as a flight plan, a passenger manifest or a maintenance request. HawkEyeLink enables Blue Sky Network’s D1000 Iridium/GSM transceiver (originally designed for the operator to track its helicopters) to connect to iOS devices (iPhone and iPad). The new capability allows users to download forms to the iOS device at the operator’s base via Wi-Fi, and then complete and transmit them in flight.

Honeywell added a new feature to its Ovation Select cabin management system that allows flight attendants or passengers to control entertainment and cabin comfort settings from a Samsung smartphone. The system can already be operated using an iPhone, iPad or other tablet devices. The control units allow users to scroll easily through moving-map display options or to change cabin lighting and temperature settings.

David Gray, CEO and founder of Flight Display Systems (Booth N3124), said here at NBAA 2013 that his company has delivered some 30 to 40 Jet Jukebox HD multimedia players with a wireless router to operators. “Our vision is all about wireless,” he said. “People don’t need Internet access all the time, but they do want to use their personal electronic devices.”

Aircell’s new nationwide wireless content delivery network, Gogo Cloud, allows customers of Aircell’s Gogo Vision to automatically receive the latest updates whenever they visit a Gogo Cloud location. When an aircraft arrives at a Gogo Cloud location, Aircell’s UCS 5000 system automatically connects to the Gogo Cloud Wi-Fi signal and performs a complete content update. The transfer takes place in typically less than 60 seconds for a 30-minute TV episode, and about three minutes for a feature-length movie.

Aviation Modification Leaders (AML) has completed the first installation of its high-speed AML 200 aircraft cabin router in a Piaggio P-180 turboprop. With the new router, up to 10 passengers can have broadband Internet access and Wi-Fi connectivity on any personal electronic device, according to AML.
