Turbomeca will power the 322 twin-engine UH-145 helicopters the U.S. Army has ordered from EADS North America. In total, 644 Arriel 1E2s will be delivered over the next eight years. The 738-shp engine is the same as that of the Eurocopter EC 145, of which the UH-145 is a derivative.

London’s metropolitan police force has ordered three new Eurocopter EC 145s to supplement, and one day replace, a pair of AS 355 Twin Stars. The helicopters are already in the UK, about to be role-equipped and completed by UK Eurocopter distributor McAlpine Helicopters.

A Eurocopter EC 145 will be introduced to Gulf of Mexico operations by Taylor Energy, a New Orleans-based independent oil and gas production company. One helicopter was delivered in March, and Taylor placed an option on a second, to be delivered next year.

The award of the U.S. Army’s LUH (light utility helicopter) contract to American Eurocopter will mean significant expansion at its assembly plant at Columbus, Miss. Production of the UH-145–a customized version of Eurocopter’s EC 145 (originally the BK 117), which is currently built in Germany–will be transferred to Columbus in a series of steps beginning with partial assembly, followed by full assembly and the subsequent U.S.
