Eurocopter exhibited the first example of the EC145 Mercedes-Benz at Ebace in Geneva in May. Unveiled last year as a scaled-down mock-up, the new version consists of aesthetic and practical innovations, aimed at making the cabin more comfortable for passengers accustomed to the luxury of fixed-wing cabins.

Helicopter engine manufacturer Turbomeca (Hall 2A A232) is busy developing improved models for new Eurocopter variants in the light-single and medium-twin helicopter categories, as well as an engine family that will power China’s and Russia’s forays in medium twins.
Geisinger Medical’s recent delivery of its fourth EC145 is part of an overall fleet replenishment program for the Pennsylvania-based helicopter EMS provider, which operates as Geisinger Life Flight. Geisinger has been operating Eurocopters since 1983 and was the first customer for a hospital-based BK117. Air Methods is completing the medical interior for the helicopter, which is to be based in Danville, Pa.
Flight Display Systems has installed its Select cabin management system in a Eurocopter EC145. The system allows passengers of the executive helicopter to control XM radio, Blu-ray video, cabin lighting and the Flight Display moving map from individual seats. The package includes 4.3-inch touchscreen controls and a 10.2-inch wide-screen LCD monitor in a ceiling mount. American Eurocopter installed the system and related components.
Feedback from exhibitors at this year’s Helicopter Association International Heli-Expo show–the 63rd annual event–was notably positive, a clear indication that the record attendee and exhibitor numbers signal a strong performance by the rotorcraft industry during the past year. Heli-Expo 2011 attendance reached more than 20,000, according to HAI, and exhibitors totaled 625, up from 15,243 attendees and 596 exhibitors last year.
Responding to demand from the aeromedical industry, Jet Support Services (JSSI) is adding Eurocopter EC135/145 services to its lineup. “We did a market-share analysis last June and found a total of 633 Eurocopter EC135s and 377 EC145s in service worldwide,” Kandi Spangler, JSSI v-p of marketing, told AIN.
The Helicopter Association International’s 2011 Heli-Expo show, which closes today, looks to have exceeded expectations, with exhibitors, attendees and orders indicating a strong climb out of the long economic downturn.
Flight Display Systems (Booth No. 3723) has announced the successful installation and delivery of the first Eurocopter EC145 with Flight Display’s Select cabin management system (CMS).
The CMS package allows passengers to control XM radio, Blu-ray video, cabin lighting, air-conditioning and the Flight Display moving map from seated comfort.
With dry ice, bright lights, loud music, CEO Lutz Bertling in the cockpit and four glamorous passengers in the cabin wearing helmets and flight suits, Eurocopter rolled out its newest helicopter here at Heli-Expo shortly after the convention opened today (watch video).
