NBAA and the Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA) finalized a five-year agreement yesterday that guarantees the Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (Abace) will be held at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. The deal initially was struck between the parties at EBACE last month in Geneva.

Eurocopter and Kazakhstan Engineering have signed an agreement formalizing a joint venture to assemble and customize Eurocopter EC145s at a new facility in Astana, Kazakhstan. Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering plans to assemble and deliver the first six of 45 EC145s the Kazakh government is acquiring through 2016.

Following extensive reports of GPS interference, LightSquared announced last week that it would vacate its L-Band frequency adjacent to GPS and move to one further away to greatly reduce, but not eliminate, interference with satnav signals.

A Eurocopter AS350 B3 performed one of the highest-altitude rescues on record in May when it rescued an injured climber off Alaska’s Mount McKinley just below the summit at 19,833 feet. Temsco was operating the helicopter under an exclusive-use contract for the National Park Service in the Denali National Park and Preserve. The climber had broken a leg in a fall. Rescue conditions were less than ideal, with gusty wind and extreme cold.

GECI Aviation has signed up more potential customers for the Skylander SK-105 twin-turboprop regional and utility transport, as well as announcing a firm order. Malaysian company Trans Air ordered eight SK-105s, plus four options, for use on tourist services in eastern Malaysia, Borneo, Thailand and Indonesia.

Eurocopter has opened a new global logistics facility in Les Florides industrial park near its production plant in Marignane in the south of France. It joins a logistics distribution system that includes facilities in Donauwörth, Germany; Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport, France; and Hong Kong as well as customer service centers in both Hong Kong and Dallas.
