Superior Air Parts, the manufacturer of FAA-approved PMA piston engine parts, has increased the warranty period for its new Millennium cylinders to 37 months or time between overhaul (TBO), whichever comes first. The company also will warranty new piece parts for up to 24 months or TBO. Its warranty covers manufacturing defects and applies retroactively to cylinders and parts sold after Jan. 1, 2018.
Superior now manufactures most complex parts and components in-house on sophisticated new machine tools installed at its headquarters in Coppell, Texas. This includes making its own cylinders and, more recently, adding manufacture of Continental 550-series pistons.
Although Superior’s primary business is in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Africa, it is owned by a Chinese company, along with sister company Brantly Helicopter. “We are looking forward to the Chinese market,” said CEO Keith Chatten, “and it does have opportunity in the future. I spend a lot of time there, and that market will grow, but it’s taking more time, with the control of airspace being an issue and the lack of flight instructors. Economic and political barriers are slowly breaking down and long-term we look for expansion in China.”
