Bill Carey is senior editor with Aviation International News, based in Washington, D.C. He covers the airline, defense and unmanned aircraft systems industries. He is the author of Enter the Drones: The FAA and UAVs in America, released by Schiffer Publishing in July 2016.
Carey has three decades of experience as a business, technology and aviation reporter and editor with daily newspapers, newsletters, magazines and websites. Prior to joining AIN in April 2011, he served for more than four years as editor in chief of Avionics Magazine. During this time, he chaired the Avionics Europe conference in Amsterdam in 2007 and 2008, initiated the Task Force 5 conference with RTCA in 2009 and launched the Avionics webinar series.
Carey worked as managing editor of Avionics in a previous stint, and as European bureau chief for Avionics and Rotor & Wing magazines in London from 1993 to 1995. He received the British Royal Aeronautical Society “Aerospace Journalist of the Year” award in the business aircraft category in 1997. He has been a finalist several times in the international competition, and served as a judge from 2008 to 2010.
Carey is a 1982 graduate of Syracuse University and holds a master’s degree in journalism and public affairs from American University in Washington, D.C.
