The spouse of one of the 21 people killed in the January 8 crash of an Air Midwest Beech 1900D in Charlotte, N.C., has filed the first lawsuit in connection with the accident. Filed on behalf of the wife of Stephen DeMartino, the suit names Air Midwest’s parent company, Mesa Air Group, and Raytheon Aerospace, the airline’s maintenance contractor, as defendants. It alleges the combination of excessive weight and errors related to the maintenance of the Beech 1900’s pitch-control system led directly to the crash. DeMartino seeks damages for her husband’s death and recovery of income lost.
