Just days after Aircell announced its new UCS (unified computing system) smart router/media server upgrade, Jet Aviation St. Louis signed the first after-market customer in the industry, according to the St. Louis Downtown Airport-based completion, refurbishment and MRO specialist.

Aircell describes the upgrade as “a single-backbone system that manages and simplifies the way passengers access today’s vast menu of capabilities.” The cabin communication specialist added that the system enables licensed content to be played in the cabin on an iPad, provides Wi-Fi access, a 4G modem, single SSID for the cabin, a PBX for wired and wireless handsets and management for voice and data networks. It also enables Gogo Vision capability for playing on-demand movies, television and news, as well as flight information and destination weather.

“Many UCS features are offered as options, so it’s easy for operators to choose the capabilities they need, without paying for things they don’t,” said Aircell executive v-p and general manager John Wade.
