Italian propulsion component company Avio has made the trip to Farnborough to showcase its role in some of the engine industry’s latest and most advanced offerings.
A GE partner, Avio holds a 12-percent share in the GEnx engine (an option for the Boeing 787) and carries responsibility for the accessory drive gearbox, stator parts of the low-pressure turbine and lubrication system.
In the civil realm, apart from the GEnx, Avio has major roles in the GE90 for the Boeing 777, the Trent 900 for the Airbus A380 and the CFM Leap engine (for the Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX and Comac C919).
Other projects in which Avio plays a significant role include the TP400 turboprop chosen by Airbus Military to power the A400M transport. Avio designs and produces the propeller gearbox, the largest ever produced in the Western world.
Avio’s involvement in military programs extends to the EJ200 engine for the Eurofighter Typhoon, the T700-6E1 for the NH90 helicopter and the F135 engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
