LBAS: First Major Overhaul of Global Express in Europe

Berlin-based LBAS, a joint venture among Lufthansa Technik, Bombardier and ExecuJet, has completed its first major overhaul event, an 8C check, on a Bombardier Global Express for an unidentified Spanish customer. The MRO completed the task in eight weeks. Equivalent to a D check for large commercial aircraft, the 8C check is the Global Express’s largest regular maintenance event and is required after 10 years of flight operations. It calls for complete dismantling of the cabin, major overhaul of the landing gear and extensive structure and system inspections as well as modifications. The cabin interior equipment was updated, wood surfaces and carpets were renewed by OHS Aircraft Services, and the seats got new upholstery and leather. The customer’s technical director said, “We were aware that our tight schedule and the fact that nobody had performed this inspection in Europe before [posed] a high risk. We chose LBAS to do the work based on a long history of working together; we were not disappointed.”
