Here at NBAA as a first-time exhibitor, Liebherr-Aerospace (Booth No. 4073) is rapidly gaining ground in the Americas and other parts of the world and developing new products for aircraft interiors. Its parent company, Liebherr-International in Bulle, Switzerland, opened its first U.S. operation in Saline, Mich., and recently has moved more aggressively to gain market share in the Western Hemisphere.

In Saline, Lieberr-Aerospace provides maintenance, repair and overhaul services and also customer support for buyers of Liebherr products. The company has a contract with EADS North America as a partner in production of 345 UH-72A Lakota helicopters to 2016.

At Liebherr-Aerospace Canada in Montreal, the facility provides logistic and technical support for the Bombardier product lines in Montreal and Toronto, as well as technical publications and engineering follow-up for programs in serial production.

In September, Liebherr-Aerospace opened an office in Wichita, Kan., not far from Cessna, Hawker Beechcraft and Learjet. The branch office was created to function as an interface between the aircraft manufacturers and Liebherr-Aerospace manufacturing sites in Europe.

Liebherr-Aerospace Brasil is one of the youngest members of Liebherr’s Aerospace and Transportation Systems division. Since its founding three years ago, the company has grown to employ 250 people and the production plant has 19 machining centers and more than 75,000 sq ft of floor space.

Liebherr-Aerospace is currently embarked on a program to develop new products for aircraft interiors, including air chillers for galleys and air-humidification, electrical and cooling systems.

The company’s aerospace and transportation division employs 3,700 people worldwide, with three aviation equipment plants in Lindenberg, Germany; Toulouse, France; and Guaratingueta, Brazil.
