This year’s AIN North American FBO survey, like its predecessors, is intended to be a pilots’ guide to the FBOs with which they do business. Although the survey’s ratings of individual FBOs give the appearance of a contest, this is not its purpose. There is no voting, only evaluations by pilots familiar with the service providers and facilities.
AirNav, the Internet-based provider of aviation navigation and fuel data, has entered a strategic alliance with fuel supplier Air BP. Under the arrangement, AirNav now provides all Air BP-branded FBOs with its Gold level, prominently displaying the FBO’s logo on each AirNav airport Web page.

The Naples (Fla.) Airport Authority (NAA) has rankled more than its share of business aviation devotees–most prominently with its dogfight with the FAA over a controversial ban on Stage 2 aircraft at Naples Municipal Airport. Legal action over the ban represents only one folder in NAA’s lawyers’ briefcase.
After a number of years of seeking airport approval, Jackson Hole Aviation recently renovated its customer lobby and added several new features to the FBO. Company v-p and general manager Bryan Burns said, “We opened up the whole facility interior to provide our passengers and crews with a more spacious seating area. Customers can now enjoy a spectacular view of the Grand Tetons while waiting for their flights.”
The year 1930 might not have been the best time to launch an aviation-services business. The Great Depression had the American economy wallowing, and fortunes were still being lost. Still, 26-year-old Jim Galvin, a Coast Guard veteran and aviation enthusiast, was a born thrill-seeker. In the early 1920s, he and two Coast Guard buddies became the first to ride motorcycles across the U.S., a feat documented in national newspapers.
Wilson Air Center’s new Charlotte, N.C. location is now open for business and fully operational. With the top-rated FBO in each of the last five AIN FBO Surveys (see page 20), Wilson was chosen by the Charlotte Douglas International Airport to manage the existing facility on the field (CLT).
