Learjet 25B, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dec. 20, 2004–The NTSB blamed the accident on loss of directional control due to the failure of the nosegear strut seal, which prevented the gear from centering. It also mentioned as a factor the berm with which the airplane collided.
Beech King Air C90A, Salt Lake City, Dec. 18, 2004–The NTSB said the probable cause was the pilot’s failure to obtain/ maintain a proper climb rate after takeoff and his premature initiation of the turn (low-altitude flight maneuver).
Rockwell International NA-265-80 Sabreliner, Brownwood, Texas, May 9, 2005–The NTSB blamed bird ingestion for the damage to the first-stage compressor of the Sabreliner’s left engine that caused loss of thrust. The incident happened during the takeoff roll, just after V1.
Raytheon Premier I, Rockland, Maine, Sept. 14, 2005–The landing gear of the Premier I, registered to JIK, of Mission Lakes, Wilmington, Del., collapsed into the right wing during a hard landing at Rockland. No injuries were reported.
Sikorsky S-76, Tallinn, Estonia, Aug. 10, 2005– After taking off from Tallinn, en route to Helsinki, Finland, the Copterline S-76, with two crewmembers and carrying 12 passengers, crashed into the Baltic Sea approximately three miles off the coast.
Learjet 35A, Bellville, Mich., Sept. 7, 2005– The right main tire of Learjet N35WR blew on takeoff from Detroit. The jet slid off the runway into the grass, striking three runway lights. There were no injuries and the damage to the aircraft was unknown.
Eurocopter AS 350BA, Lihue, Hawaii, Sept. 24, 2005–The AS 350 air taxi crashed in the Pacific Ocean off Kee Beach near Lihue, Kauai, under unknown circumstances. Three passengers were killed, and three people, including the pilot, were injured.
Swearingen SA-227-AC Metro, Brownsville, Texas, Sept. 8, 2005–Metro 5441F aborted the takeoff from Brownsville and ran off the runway. There were no injuries and the aircraft was not damaged. The airplane, registered to North Delaware Corp.
Bell 206B JetRanger, New Orleans, Sept. 7, 2005–A JetRanger photo flight operated by Helitrans of Manvel, Texas, crashed while maneuvering within the New Orleans temporary flight restricted area established after Hurricane Katrina.
