Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

The FAA is proposing a $430,000 civil penalty against Beechcraft for failing to maintain the required quality control system on its Baron production line.&nbsp;The proposed action stems from an investigation into customer reports of fuel leaks on 43 Barons produced between January 2012 and November 2013, the FAA alleges.&nbsp;Investigators determined that improperly installed fuel bladders led to the leaks, the agency said.&nbsp;

 


In the civil penalty letter, the agency cites a number of issues involved with the installation, including the use of an unauthorized tool, installation of dimensionally nonconforming bladders, and the improper placement of the bladders' interconnect nipple base.&nbsp;“This error was not detected during inspection,” the FAA alleged. Installation errors resulted in excess material that could lead to bladder seam deformation and compromise the inner lining, the FAA said.

 


The civil penalty alleges that the Wichita manufacturer did not follow its FAA-approved quality control process to ensure the aircraft conformed to the type design and was safe to operate.&nbsp;Beechcraft has 30 days to respond to the proposed enforcement action. Beechcraft said it is working with the FAA on the matter, but would not comment beyond that.
