Mary Mahoney, who retired in late 2014 after devoting 35 years to AIN, died on February 13. She was 74. Born Dec. 31, 1943, Mahoney first joined the company in the late 1970s as a secretary and advocated to serve as the managing editor of the monthly magazine—a suggestion that initially met resistance. She left the company in 1981, but rejoined two years later as AIN's production editor, and remained for the rest of her career. As production director, she managed the flow of Business Jet Traveler and Aviation International News magazines, as well as AIN convention and airshow editions.
In a tribute on her retirement in 2014, BJT editor Jeff Burger wrote that she had “done everything from catching grammatical errors to suggesting important design and workflow improvements.” Burger had also noted her passionate advocacy for quality. “Never shy about forcefully speaking her mind—we once had a long, heated argument that as I recall focused totally on one semicolon,” he wrote.
