Global petroleum provider bp has promoted Martin Thomsen to CEO of Air bp, its aviation fuels division, effective July 1. He is stepping in for Jon Platt, who has steered the business since 2016 but is retiring from the company later this year.
Thomsen takes the reins after serving in a number of roles with bp over the last 15 years, most recently as retail director and fuels country integrator for Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey. He also has served as fuels general manager for Turkey, retail operations manager for Spain, commercial optimization fuels for Iberia, and retail Europe strategy and business development.
“This is a time of significant challenge for the aviation industry, but it is also a time of great opportunity,” Thomsen said of taking his new role during the global pandemic. “Air bp has been providing safe and reliable fueling operations for more than 90 years and remains committed to supporting the needs of our customers. We have an exciting future ahead of us as we continue to support both BP and our industry’s low carbon ambitions.”
