A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. The International Aircraft Dealers Association (IADA) yesterday released its 2026-2027 Current Market Portrait &amp; Forecast, which describes strong demand for preowned business jets and a shrinking supply.
IADA-accredited dealers closed 746 business aircraft transactions during the first half of this year, a 21% year-over-year (YOY) increase. Long-range and ultra-long-range jet asking prices have also risen at the same time.
The association points to strong equity markets, bonus depreciation, solid financing, and the ongoing appeal of private travel as all serving to buoy the industry. With OEM delivery backlogs extending out as far as three years, buyers who can’t wait are entering the preowned market, where they’re competing for a shrinking pool of late-model jets, particularly among midsize, super-midsize, and large-cabin models.
“The preowned business aircraft market remains strong, but it is also increasingly selective,” said IADA executive director Lou Seno. “High-quality aircraft with the right pedigree, maintenance status, and equipment remain in short supply, making preparation, timing, and experienced representation more important than ever for both buyers and sellers.”
Despite possible headwinds from tariffs, along with Middle East tensions and their resulting impact on oil prices, the report noted there has been no slowing in demand. North America remains the largest of the global preowned business aircraft markets. The current U.S. tariff environment remains generally favorable for qualifying preowned business aircraft, while potential restrictions affecting new aircraft imports could further strengthen demand for available preowned aircraft.
IADA predicts a slight increase in transactional tempo over the next six months and a drift toward more balanced conditions as OEM deliveries pick up—with more meaningful softening likely arriving in early 2027.
Looking to increase its participation at NBAA-BACE later this month in Las Vegas, IADA will have nearly 50 members co-branding or partnering with its exhibit, along with providing expertise in panel discussions focused on aircraft transactions, market conditions, and pre-purchase inspections.
“Our objective is not simply to have a larger presence at NBAA-BACE, but to make a greater contribution to the business aviation community,” Seno explained. “IADA members bring extensive transaction experience, professional standards, and practical knowledge about what makes aircraft transactions successful and where problems can arise.”
Jo Damato, NBAA’s senior v-p for events and professional engagement, added, “This expanded participation at NBAA-BACE, anchored by prominent involvement in industry-critical programming, strengthens the value we provide to the industry, from operators and flight departments to maintenance providers and suppliers.”
