Airbus Debuts A220, Rebranding the Bombardier CSeries Airliner
Airbus has publicly launched the new A220 narrowbody airliner at the 2018 Farnborough Airshow following its acquisition and rebranding of Bombardier’s CSeries program. the A220 expands the Airbus portfolio into the 100-150 seat segment of the market, giving it a way to attract new customers who may go on to buy aircraft from its larger product ranges.
The move is especially significant given that Airbus’s deadly rival Boeing seeks to expand its own product range through a proposed merger with Embraer’s commercial aircraft division. This will mean the U.S. manufacturer can offer both the Embraer E2 series and its own 737 Max family to compete with the A220/320 offering.
