<p>Under an FAA interim final rule, airplanes and helicopters can no longer share the same airspace near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA), and military aircraft must broadcast their locations. This rule permanently adopts the temporary restrictions that have been in place since the Jan. 29, 2025, fatal midair collision between an airliner and an Army helicopter. The rule also fully implements an NTSB recommendation, according to the FAA. This interim final rule is effective Jan. 23, 2026. "However, recognizing that members of the public may wish to provide comments, FAA is accepting comments related to this interim final rule," said the agency. Comments are due by Feb. 23, 2026.</p>
