The Philippines’ Cebu Pacific on Thursday today took delivery of the first ATR 72-600 High Capacity, a 78-seat option of the ATR 72 certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency last December. The latest version of the ATR 72-600 seats ten more passengers than the same model in standard configuration.
Based on the existing cabin platform, ATR added an additional row of four seats by reducing pitch and replacing the galley compartment with a new aft foldable galley. The option allows airlines to choose between full cargo capacity or a combination of cargo capacity and galley space. ATR also offers the 78-seat option as a retrofit.
Cebu Pacific plans to replace its current fleet of eight 72-seat ATR 72-500s with a fleet of 16 new 78-seat ATR 72-600s. The airline signed for 16 ATR 72-600s along with options on another 10 for operation by wholly owned subsidiary Cebgo. Plans call for deliveries of the ATR 72-600s to run until 2020.
