A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Signature Aviation has broken ground on a new $10 million hangar/office complex at its Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (KROA) FBO in Virginia.
The project, slated to be completed next year, includes a 22,000-sq-ft hangar capable of sheltering ultra-long-range business jets, along with an attached 3,000-sq-ft office facility and a 14-vehicle parking lot.&nbsp;When opened, it will bring the location to more than 100,000 sq ft of aircraft shelter.
The development was part of the company’s 2024 lease renewal, which also included the rebuilding of its fuel farm. In December, Signature installed a self-serve avgas fuel pump there.
“General aviation plays a key role in the economic health of our region, spurring growth through global air connectivity for the Roanoke Valley and far beyond,” explained Roanoke Regional Airport Commission president and CEO Mike Stewart. “We’re thrilled with Signature’s commitment to building new facilities that will support the growing demand for first-class corporate aviation hangar space and services at KROA.”
The facility’s lineage on the field dates back to 1957, when it was part of Piedmont Aviation, one of the companies Signature acquired to form today’s megachain.
“Signature’s history at KROA is not just measured in years, but in the relationships, aircraft, and regional missions we have supported since the Piedmont Aviation era,” said Jim Hopkins, Signature’s senior v-p of airport relations and strategic programs. “This project allows us to build on that foundation with modern infrastructure that responds directly to guest and customer demand, supports the airport’s long-term goals, and reinforces our commitment to Roanoke for years to come.”
