<p>ICAO&nbsp;has&nbsp;recommended&nbsp;implementing&nbsp;the new&nbsp;global reporting format (GRF) for assessing runway conditions&nbsp;on&nbsp;November 4.&nbsp;However, Canada&nbsp;has decided to start using the&nbsp;GRF&nbsp;format as of August 12 to ensure smooth preparation for the next winter season. The new format&nbsp;is intended to better&nbsp;associate airplane performance calculations with the actual runway surface conditions in order to mitigate the risk of runway excursions during landings and takeoffs on contaminated runway surfaces.</p>
