<p>This advance notice of proposed amendment (A-NPA) provides initial concepts for the development of environmental protection requirements for the new generation of supersonic transports (SST) being developed for business jet and airline applications. These aircraft are expected to become operational in the late 2020s. The objective of the rulemaking is to ensure that landing and takeoff noise limits correspond to existing requirements for subsonic jet airplanes. Requirements for CO2 limits for SSTs are also being proposed. Comments on the A-NPA are due July 25, 2022.</p>
